You should do:-
1-Sit down & Lean forward with head slightly flexed
2-Keep your head higher than the level of your heart
3-Compress the nose between your thumb and index finger
4-Put ice to your forehead to induce reflex vasoconstriction
5-Keep in the previous position for 5-10 minutes, usually the bleeding stops
6-Repeat as necessary until the nose has stopped bleeding
7-If the bleeding was severe or a shock happened (rapid pulse, low blood pressure, severe pallor, cold extremities) ,then consult a doctor immediately
You should NOT :-
1-Lean back or tilt your head back because that allows the blood to run back into your sinuses and throat and can cause gagging or inhaling the blood
2- Put your head between your legs because that will increase bleeding
3- Blow your nose or put anything into it. If you have to sneeze, open your mouth so that the air will escape out the mouth and not through the nose
